Experience working with client files and office procedure in a legal office setting.
RESPONSIBILITIES
During the summer term:
-
provide direct client services and engage in all aspects of legal service – interviewing clients, case analysis and strategy, research, negotiation, hearing advocacy.

Engage in community development, public legal education projects
-
Attend weekly seminars and group meetings and supervision meetings with review counsel
-
Work collaboratively with fellow summer students
-
Work under the close supervision of review counsel lawyers and follow their directions and instructions for all interactions with clients.
During the fall and winter terms
-
Provide ongoing support and supervision to caseworker and senior caseworkers.
-
Ensure attendance at all court appearances assigned to the group.

Conduct ongoing reviews of the bring forwards for the group files.

Advise Review Counsel of any concerns regarding caseworkers and senior caseworkers’ participation and performance of assigned files and responsibilities.

Present weekly case conferencing sessions, identify gaps in knowledge.
-
Manage group files during the exam periods and changeover times between terms.
-
Perform caseworker and senior caseworker responsibilities as required such as remand and court responsibilities and hearing attendance.
-
Perform assigned tasks within the group leader.
-
Attend monthly group leader meetings.
