During the summer term: 

  • provide direct client services and engage in all aspects of legal service – interviewing clients, case analysis and strategy, research, negotiation, hearing advocacy.

  • Engage in community development, public legal education projects

  • Attend weekly seminars and group meetings and supervision meetings with review counsel

  • Work collaboratively with fellow summer students

  • Work under the close supervision of review counsel lawyers and follow their directions and instructions for all interactions with clients.

During the fall and winter terms

  • Provide ongoing support and supervision to caseworker and senior caseworkers.

  • Ensure attendance at all court appearances assigned to the group.

  • Conduct ongoing reviews of the bring forwards for the group files.

  • Advise Review Counsel of any concerns regarding caseworkers and senior caseworkers’ participation and performance of assigned files and responsibilities.

  • Present weekly case conferencing sessions, identify gaps in knowledge.

  • Manage group files during the exam periods and changeover times between terms.

  • Perform caseworker and senior caseworker responsibilities as required such as remand and court responsibilities and hearing attendance.

  • Perform assigned tasks within the group leader.

  • Attend monthly group leader meetings.
