• Applicants must be enrolled in the Faculty of Law.

  • First year law students are encouraged to apply for this position.

  • This experience will support future caseworker and senior caseworker applications.


  • Students are expected to commit a minimum of 7 to 10 hours per week to their work over the course of the entire year and be available for training. 

  • Students attend the clinic for a mandatory weekly group meeting, and other times, as required to complete casework and to meet with the senior caseworkers assigned to the files.

  • Students submit file work and meet with Review Counsel regularly.  This is to ensure timely case management and that the ongoing needs of the clients are addressed.


  • Assist caseworkers and senior caseworkers in client support.

  • Facilitate client intake and scheduling – complete intake forms, return client messages, provide support to reception, follow up on scheduled appointments, respond to inquiries for service, make appointment reminder calls.

  • Assist caseworkers with research requests and the preparation of memorandum as directed by the group leader. 

  • Maintain strict client confidentiality.  

  • Attend mandatory weekly group meetings and at other times as required to complete casework requirements and to meet with the senior caseworkers assigned to the files.

  • Attends group meetings every week. Commits to volunteering for 7 to 10 hours each week.


Community Legal Aid advertises volunteer applications for the Fall term in August of each year.  Winter term volunteer positions are advertised in December of each year. Summer employment opportunities for group leaders are advertised in March of each year.
